New Moon Trailer- Ms Van Der Sanden

What techniques does this film
trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?
The first technique used to persuade the audience to see the film is
the usage of quick cuts to various different scenes in the film. These fast shots of the film are the key events in the film. The usage of these quick shots to through the different scenes suggests that these scenes are important in the film and that they are some of the main scenes. They persuade the audience by showing these main scenes but they don’t give too much away this engages the audience straight away making them want to go and watch the film. However
another technique used is the usage of non-diegetic sounds such as the music being played. The music being played automatically creates a build-up of tension, making the audience want to know what is going to happen next. This is a result of the music being so loud and jumpy at times. Making the audience eager to watch more of that particular scene.
The males are represented as dominant, powerful and quite strong. In the scene where 'Edward' is telling 'Bella' that it is the last time they will see each other the camera angle is lowered on 'Edward' making him look more dominant over 'Bella' this shows that he is more superior than she is. Another example of where the male looks dominant is when 'Jacob' is telling Bella that
'Edward' doesn't want her anymore the camera angle is lowered making him look
dominant and as if he is in control over 'Bella'.
Females are represented as weak and helpless. An example of this is when 'Jacob' saved her after beingnearly drowned. She is lying on the floor and looks as if she can't help herself and that 'Jacob' has to help her. However an example earlier than this is when 'Bella' is laying on the floor in the woods curled up the angle of the camera is higher making her look smaller and not so dominant this shows that she is weaker.
The target audience that this film will most likely appeal to is teenagers aged 13-16. This film is aimed at these age groups because of the two main characters (protagonists) 'Edward' and 'Jacob'. As these are seen as good looking and they are what teenage girls like. As this film has a genre of fantasy/romantic this would target mostly the audience of females as they like
these types of films where romance is the main subject of the film. Furthermore the film may target a male audience because of how the males are represented as the more dominant sex of the film and they seem to look out for the female less dominant gender. An example of the film being targeted at males is during the fight scene between the vampires also when the wolves begin to fight in the forest.
